I spotted this gull in Connaught on Frederickhouse Lake today. It may be a laughing gull and if it is I think it is a rare bird for this area. Please correct me if I am wrong. Diane Attachments:

I had to google this one and sure enough it looks like a laughing gull. Here is a little information I found along with the link to the site. Good one Diane A smallish gull with a black head, the Laughing Gull is abundant along the southern Atlantic and Gulf coasts. Infrequently found away from the ocean, it takes advantage of human habitat modifications, foraging in parking lots and dumps, and breeding on dredge spoil islands. www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Laughing_Gull/id

I use that site to id birds and it looked like it fit the laughing gull description. I also emailed Marc Joron but have not heard back from him yet. So it may be a rare bird capture for me. I will be at the meeting on Sunday. Diane

Actually it is not that sharp but it was very hard to hold the camera still in the wind - I had my monopod too. I ended up taking the lens hood off but with the wind and the rough water it was hard to get a sharp shot. Another learning experience!

This is the "big picture" of Frederickhouse Lake that day. Can you see the large lone Canada Goose just past the gulls? Attachments:

I see the goose! A heavy tripod is very nice on days like this!!Another idea would be to crank up your ISO and open up your apperature so you can get a fast shutter speed. This is the "big picture" of Frederickhouse Lake that day. Can you see the large lone Canada Goose just past the gulls?

My shutter speed was pretty high - from 1/500 to 1/1000 - but a heavy tripod would be a treat to have. Thanks for the tips!
