The Portraits for Families project has moved along considerably over the summer months. Unfortunatly Mike and Pam have moved out of town, wish you all the best Mike and Pam. But as always when one door closes another opens and we are fortunate that Jodi has joined us. I feel that it is time to have the whole PPC join in to help out with the project. If you want to get involved we will start our September meeting at 6:15pm to discuss the project and bring you up to date. The regular club meeting will take place at 7:00pm. Hope to see you there.

Hello everyone some updates to report. 1) Joanne’s Art Center has approached her suppliers and has come up with frames for $14.00 including the matting. Approximate cost will be about $1800.00. Dave tells me that the frames are of high quality with a retail value far exceeding the $14.00 asking price. She will also throw in hangers. Dave got us a very good discount and if you are around her shop please tell her thanks. 2) Wal Mart has given Dave a 100.00 voucher to be used towards the printing cost. The overall cost of printing should be around the $250.00 mark if we have 100 clients. Thanks Dave 3) Application which are really brochures are going out today to the Lords Kitchen and the South Porcupine Food Bank. These organisations were very excited with the concept of the project and commented that this was different and would certainly help lift the spirits of the families. The brochures have a contact phone number for our target clients; they will call the number to make their appointments. This was recommended by the Porcupine Health Unit as they suggested this system because of the ease of contact. 4) Our new web site (currently under construction) at www.porcupinephotoclub.org is also listed in the brochure as another point of contact. All members should check this out; on the front page you will see the Portraits For Families and a link to the contact information for an appointment or they can fill out the short application online which will be e-mailed directly to myself. The ORG site is not our official site just yet but follow the registration direction and take it for a test drive. You can post up to 8 pictures at a time and it automatically sizes your pictures for posting. It is not pretty just yet but it does work well. Register and post a few shots. 5) I will send along via e-mail the current documents that are being distributed. If you know of organisation or individual who would enjoy the experience then please pass them along. 6) Other organisations I am waiting to hear from are: Area Women in Crises and Tranquility House Well that’s it for now 33 days until the event. Thanks everyone.

Hi everyone. I would like to meet with the group this coming Thursday for some final discussion on the Portraits for Families event. As you now know the news paper article is done, frames are on order, and Brad has the memory sticks from DeBeers. Ray has our makeup person committed and is still looking for someone to do hair and the volunteers are in place. Pamphlets and posters have been distributed to, The Lords Kitchen, Women’s Shelter and Food Banks. As of Saturday morning we have 8 families booked with appointments. I anticipate that we will have more families booked in the next 2 weeks. Personally I believe that we need to go ahead with the event and we must continue even if we have just the 8 bookings. I would not want to cancel and disappoint the few families that we have. They were excited at having a family portrait with some commenting they could not believe that we are doing this for them. I hope that you all agree with me on this matter as I feel that the PPC needs to carry on and complete this project. The funds not used this year will certainly be available for next year’s event. This being our first such event I feel that we have learned from the experience and will come out of the gate flying next year. What we need is a little help from the PPC members perhaps you know of someone who is a pastor or priest, they would have access to the families that we wish to target. I will be speaking to a member of the March of Dimes today and Father Pat Lafleur. I have attached the brochure for you to give to whom you believe will help us get a few more families. I will try to get the Schumacher Public School for our Thursday meeting. I will contact you all once I secure a location with a start time of 7:00pm. The PPC members have been just fantastic to work with and to me personally the success of the project does not require that we make 100 families happy but if we make just one family happy we will have achieved our goal. Thanks again everyone. Aurele Monfils

Set up at Melissa Kelly Dance Academy this coming Saturday at 6:00pm. If you have some free time we could use the help. We will be setting up all the tables, 3 photography stations, welcoming area etc etc. Sunday all volunteers and PPC members should be there for app. 8:00am maybe a litttle tweeking to do. Doors open at 9:00am and our first family is booked for that time slot.
Its going to be fun, busy but most of all very rewarding.
Here is a new update: The Porcupine Kinsmen have donated 250.00 this money will go towards next years event. Very NICE
Thanks everyone hope to see you Saturday and Sunday

Well we did it, what a day it was. I am so proud of the PPC members, such care was taken with all the families. All of the voluteers on make up, Kids craft table and door attendents. everything went off without a hitch. The families themselves appreciated all that we had done for them and there were a few that kind of caught me off guard and I wasnt the only one with a lump in my throat. It was nice to see Bonnie again and hoping she will join us. Those with special needs children and one family in particular expressed that this was the first time they had a family portrait taken. I could go on and on but I think you get the picture. What's left to do 1) Dave will have all of the photos edited. 2) I will bring them in for printing. 3) All printed shots will then be matted and framed. 4) Pictures will the be sent to the famiies. 5) I will write a letter to the editor and have it printed in the news paper. 6) Tally up the cost, some bills to pay Monday. 7) and finally I want to document what we have done listing what went well and what we could do different. So there is still one more meeting to talk about that. Thanks again everyone, my feet are sore but I have a smile on my face. ;D

I might as well throw in my two cents. What a day! You could sure see the appreciation on the faces of all who came even if it wasnt verbalized. Some of the kids where just wonderful to work with and I could have shot them all day long. All in all, it was well worth the work and kudos to Aurele for everything he put up with and put into the event.

His mom said he had never done that! It had only been a month or so since he had even reached out to his own uncle.

I also have to jump in and thank my photographic partners in crime, Jess, my mom, Amy and Terry for an amazing experience. I learned so much yesterday and am looking forward to next year!
